Giant steps up efforts to remind shoppers to wear face coverings

Giant grocery stores are once again reminding shoppers to wear masks.

Starting this week, employees are positioned at store entrances reminding customers of Pennsylvania’s order to wear face coverings while inside stores, said Ashley Flower, spokeswoman.

In addition, Giant will offer complimentary masks by request if customers don’t have one or have forgotten, she said.

“We care deeply for all of our customers and are committed to creating a respectful and compassionate environment,” Flower said. “In that spirit, we will not prevent someone from entering our store if they cannot wear a mask for medical reasons.”

Employees also are reminding shoppers about Giant Direct services, including pickup and delivery. All team members continue to wear masks, Flower said, adding stores continue to play messages over the in-store radios and display signs reminding customers about the mask requirement.

In recent weeks, large retailers including CVS, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target and Walmart have announced they are requiring customers to wear face masks.

In the meantime, Giant also announced today its customers donated more than $1 million to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Giant Company is among the top 15 fundraisers in the country for the hospitals.

How about if you worked in a Giant location ten miles into Maryland and you didn’t get the $3/hour “pandemic pay?”

Nearest Giant to me is in Bartonsville. I find their bagels to be the best of any of the supermarket chains.

People with psychopathic or narcissistic traits are less likely to follow face mask rules or obey lockdowns because they don’t think they work, study finds - and they’re MORE likely to hoard toilet paper

Huh, guess that fits me. I'm pretty psychopathic, my only feelings are cold and comfortable. And I definitely hoard TP, I actually had so many shittickets saved up before all this, it was two-three months into the panic before we started running low!

Oh, and yes masks are stupid. You don't even have to be an engineer or have anything more than 6th grade physics... Without a full face seal, masks are not effective at all. Especially when "masks required" is satisfied by bullshit like a scarf or bandanna!

Speaking of which, back in sixth grade, we were doing experiments regarding porosity, and guess what? Air and liquid water travel more effectively through gravel than sand, not to mention that a blanket can suffocate a person, especially an infant, even with pores larger than air molecules, you don’t have to be smaller than a molecule of a gas or liquid to reduce the flow of the gas or liquid. Someone who says that just having pores larger than water or air molecules doesn’t inhibit flow do not understand fluid mechanics.

Same as if I was paying more or less state or property tax.

A lady called in to the Rush show yesterday and gave the best arguments I’ve heard yet...she said is masks work, why are so many places shut down...and why do they release prisoners when all they need to keep them safe in their cells are masks...

Actually, a filter by definition does not inhibit the flow, it only restricts it. Someone can suffocate on a blanket or pillow because it doesn't allow enough air through, not because it doesn't allow any. But for a filter to not allow enough aerosols through/around to prevent any spread of most viri, needs to be much better than your N95 that A) is only rated to remove 95% of particles at B) 3 microns or larger, and C) is not sealed. And I'm sure you can't argue much about how a bandanna or scarf is an acceptable "mask", when the best they filter is sand, maybe some dust, and just get damp? And warm, a great breeding ground for bacteria!

And if you started studying porosity, you definitely looked at fluid resistance! What does a fluid do when something slows it down? It follows the path of least resistance. And where is that in your mask? That's right: the top, bottom, and both sides. 50-70% of your breath isn't even getting filtered, it's simply flowing around the mask and still contaminating your environment.

And I won't even get into proper disposal methods, but it's a good bet no one is following those!

what about all the people who routinely allow them to fall off the bridge of their nose? Should we not have a Federal response to the need to train people on how to select and implement safe mask wearing, not unlike teaching grade schoolers how to apply a condom to a vegetable?

"What if we just think we are being manipulated? Are we narcissistic to insist on personal freedoms?"

No, for that reason, not at all. There are exceptions.

On masks in some of the Middle Eastern countries, the virus tends to spread most easily between people in small spaces (e.g., family members).

Hardly anyone except doctors and nurses follow them. Or people working with genuinely hazardous chemicals, like I did. Genuine hazards such as mold spores, dust, or aerosols, are such that you DO NOT TOUCH your face until you have removed the respirator and washed your hands. Hardly anyone does that.

In response your point about middle eastern spread, ok. It spreads in families.

The women are masked outside and I guess the men aren’t.

And they die in equal numbers.

Thus masks are pointless. Unless you have another thing to say about how they are helping?

Because if they are helping them the women who have been very thoroughly masked outside since way before this virus even started would be contracting and dying way less often than men.

We all have our masks off at home. So that’s irrelevant for comparison.

Some of the countries in the Middle East:

The men go without masks in crowds. They spread the disease to each other and to their wives at home. The women don’t wear masks in every place or situation, by the way.

Some of the countries in Asia:

Both men and women wear masks in crowded public areas. Far fewer men and women bring it home.
