yes he did!

The John Wayne movie on Genghis some people claim it contributed to Wayne’s death. Either gave him cancer or contributed to his cancer. Also there is a claim that many of the principals in the move also died “prematurely” of cancer. The filming was supposedly done during the time of an above ground nuclear test. The prevailing winds over the test site were in the direction of where the movie was being filmed.

The funniest thing I remember about the movie was Susan Hayward as a red headed I guess Irish Mongol and the Mongol Horde being obviously Mexican.

Dunno !

The other backstory about this film was the studio forced Duke to take the role. So he did the film drunk.

In Xanadu did Kublai Khan a stately pleasure dome decree. Along the sacred river Alph, through caverns measureless to man, down to a sunlit sea.

That’s all I can recall about the place, it’s been a very long time since I tried to memorize that whole poem.

To stand within the pleasure dome
Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste anew the fruits of life
The last immortal man
To find the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
Oh, I will dine on honey dew
And drink the milk of paradise, oh, paradise

I too clicked that link and did not find that article. Did find this interesting link about bubonic plague in Asia.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1309186/China-bubonic-plague-outbreak-black-death-mongolia-news

Several people from various areas have died from eating Marmot meat (animal similar to prairie dogs). In US, bubonic plague is endemic in a number of our western states. Direct contact with infected rodents and their fleas. There is a pneumonic form which is very rapidly deadly caught from airborne spray, human to human. China, Russia, and Mongolia have all posted alerts.

My aunt was living in Reno during that period. She said after a nuclear test, people would report feeling sick or poorly. Probably low grade radiation sickness.

Well, at least a lot of Mexicans have an Asian heritage, and the Khan had his choice of many exotic captives.

I guess if I had to spend winters there it would make me mad enough to want to go conquer everything to the south.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
