The NBA’s reigning champions rolled into Walt Disney World on Thursday ahead of the league’s restart plan and delivered a strong message in the process. The Toronto Raptors pulled into the Disney campus in a pair of buses outfitted with “Black Lives Matter” written across the sides. Several players had T-shirts with the same phrase on them, too.

Doubtful they’ll repeat but if they do I won’t be celebrating. It’s fitting they are gonna be playing in front of no fans.
Why is it that so few whites play for the NBA?
And how do the Raptors get away with such an offensive name, equating the nearly all-black team with mindless prehistoric carnivorous creatures which ripped their prey to shreds before eating them?

The executives of the sports leagues aren’t dumb, they have hundreds of analysts and media gurus that have made a conscious decision to write conservative viewership out of their ‘prospectus ‘(for lack of a better term). They’ve all decided now is the time, that millennial and younger is where they will draw in their money. They are going to cater to fans that don’t want an escape from politics, fans that don’t care about unifying with neighbors over sports teams. The modern sports fan wants social justice as a part of the experience.

Years ago I told Peter Gammons (I ran across him in a fitness club in the Skydome) that I thought baseball and other team sports was pseudo mercenary city state warfare. It’s entertainment but easily disposable and replaceable. He didn’t argue with me.

That’s exactly what is going on. They aren’t even hiding it. It’s similar to how most product marketers ignore older people because they have already have brand loyalty.

I heard Gammons on a radio interview describing being at a Pearl Jam concert. He highlighted telling of when Eddie Vedder took the mic stand and impaled the head of a George Bush effigy. Gammons said, “It was awesome!”
