Police, firefighters and emergency services were called to a post office in the Bavarian town of Schweinfurt on Saturday after staff noticed the smell coming from a package.

...The entire building was evacuated, with around 60 employees forced to leave, before the package was carefully examined.

“A total of 12 postal workers who complained of nausea had to be taken care of on site,”

Six ambulances, five first-responder cars and two emergency vehicles attended the incident. Three fire departments were also involved.

The fruit was eventually delivered to its intended recipient, a 50-year-old Schweinfurt resident.

That stuff is nasty, and the smell lingers for what seems like forever. W hen I was much younger and worked at an A&P, the night stock workers would occasionally engage in a limburger cheese fight. The store definitely had a smell to it the next day. 8>)

I enjoy durian as does one of my daughters. The other 3 in the house get hysterical if anything even made with it comes in to the house.

Haha—I knew it had to be durian, even before reading the article. Stinky fruit, but delicious!

I spent 5 years in Singapore and most of the locals there love Durian. It smells like a dirty latrine. I could never bring myself to taste it.

Is this close?

“Durian is a strange combination of savory, sweet, and creamy all at once. A durian is supposed to have subtle hints of chives mixed with powdered sugar. It’s supposed to taste like diced garlic and caramel poured into whipped cream. So relax and let the cacophony of flavors blow you away”

I ordered a bag of Durian flavored hard candy online a few years ago. The vendor was in Indonesia. It had a unique flavor that was rather good. Whatever ‘stench’ component the fruit may have had was absent in the candy.

I suppose the cultural equivalent in the Black community of the past would have been Chitterlings.
Chitterlings are basically hog or cow intestines.

They must be cleaned of all solid ‘debris’, then simmered for 4 to 5 hours with Creole seasoning. By that time, the entire house REEKS of clogged guts. The aroma can be detected from the basement up into the crawlspace of your attic. I don’t expect this dish to ever go mainstream.

I was okay with eating them sometimes, not a lot.
I never volunteered to be the Holiday Cook in charge of that dish.

“It’s supposed to taste like diced garlic and caramel poured into whipped cream.”

Yeah that description doesn’t exactly entice me.
