I firmly believe that most severe cases of Covid-19 are caused by people being in subclinical vitamin and mineral deficiency. Vitamin D, C, Pantothenic Acid; A, zinc, boron, among others. Then they are hit with this nasty virus and get sick or very sick. Therefore I recommend immediately upping your intake of critical nutrients to fortify your immune system.

Mid-Atlantic areas are reporting that the rate of deaths for blacks and Latinos is higher that for whites. That makes sense because not only are blacks and Latinos more likely to be low income and living in “food deserts”, but their darker skin means they absorb less Vitamin D from sun exposure. Therefore I recommend that all darker skinned people take 5,000 IU of Vitamin D daily unless they are getting a lot of sun exposure on large areas of skin that is not washed for 6 hours after exposure. D is formed in oils on skin and then absorbed into the body over time. No oils no D.

On a separate note, it seems people who don’t have washer/dryers in their dwelling unit are suffering from a serious dirty laundry dilemma. Here are thoughts, solutions, and commiserations about this issue.

I would like to go back to the topic of Zinc deficiency.

I think India is going to have a rough time with this due to low animal protein diets and high plant related consumption. Some of the best work to date on zinc deficiency and Type 2 diabetes has come out of India.

Evaluation of Serum Zinc Status and Glycated Hemoglobin of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Assam

Effects of zinc supplementation on diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis

We keep seeing negative outcomes based on a seemingly unrelated set of comorbidity. All of the listed from high BMI, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension to cardiac issues are related to metabolic syndrome, elevated HbA1c and zinc deficiency.

Even coronary heart disease may be associated by zinc urinary loss.

Metabolic syndrome is associated with numerous pathologies.

Metabolic syndrome: a closer look at the growing epidemic and its associated pathologies.

Metabolic syndrome has been studied extensively since the 1990s. A current paper explores an isocaloric shift from carbohydrates to fat in the diet. Jeff Volek has done substantial work in the past and I respect his scholarship.

Dietary carbohydrate restriction improves metabolic syndrome independent of weight loss

Now back to COVID-19 syndrome and zinc deficiency. I think many emerging treatment options are missing the proper zinc supplement. I have posted before about Zinc Picolinate. I think any supplement at this point is important, however picolinate provides for better intercellular absorption.

Finally, a simple review of zinc and zinc picolinate.

I think you have a very very valid point. There has been articles about zinc limiting the virus reproduction rate. I have been taking C with Zinc since the outbreak.

The allergies have not been as bad this year for me, makes me wonder if C with zinc is helping in that area too.
