As the state remains under a stay-at-home order during the COVID-19 pandemic, first responders are among those who are on the front lines.
The Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory has donated more than 50,000 cookies to San Francisco, Alameda and San Mateo county first responders this week.
The company posted photos of the cookies on their Instagram and said, COVID19 is tough, but we are tougher and like my fortunes, we will persevere.
To thank the healthcare workers, the company also sent cookies to UCSF Oakland Benioff Childrens Hospital for the staff and doctors.
More cookies will be sent out next week to the Cameron House in San Francisco.
For over 57 years, the family business has been a part of the community.
Owner of the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory tells reporters that people are afraid to visit Chinatown because of the corona virus. He calls it racism, adding that his business is off $500-$800 dollars a day.

No one was being racist.
We recognized there may be a problem and quit going to restaurants in general during that same period.
Hell, I had Pho Noodle at my favorite place the same week.
Yes, it’s Vietnamese food but, I also ate at Panda Express the same week.
Now, many people saw the writing on the wall and I wasn’t where they were in the view of what was coming but, if I recall there was talk of quarantine, shelter in place or terms like that around that time and those same people just plain quit going to restaurants.
I ate at Pacific Fresh in Palo Alto that same week and had no problem getting a table that I should have been told, on a typical weekend, would be a 30 minute wait.
there are probably 20-30 tables in that place and only 5 were taken.
That just never happens.
I’d search the news to prove the point but, I don’t want to belabor the point, which is probably provable by someone else with a bit more time.
Everyones business is off because were on lockdown.
My business has been scorched 70-80%.
At least I’m not in car sales.
They are at 100% napalm level...
Golden Gate’s generosity is commendable. That said, I would be pretty creeped out working in a hospital and seeing bags of fortune cookies. I’ve never liked fortune cookies. Maybe that’s why it would give me the creeps. Ummm, that’s it.
I like one after a Chinese dinner—they have this yummy, light vanilla taste. But how many of those can you eat?? It’s not like they’re Oreos, lol. Still, nice gesture.
I would be suspicious that I was being mocked and infected with something. Irrational or not, I would not touch the misfortune cookies.
I hear you. It seems to hint at a cruel joke.
Yeah, I’m a cynic. I see restaurants deducting the retail price of food on their taxes, while the wholesale cost for it was a fraction of that.
Going further as cookies from a Chinese restaurant? Propaganda?
Got a fortune cookie the other day:
THAT was not chicken!
My son needs a new car badly and he has to wait. At least he cant go anywhere for the time being.
Um, yep. That's the very first thing that came to my mind as well when I saw the top of this thread. Fortune cookies? Pretty ironic...
