Black folk in the Poconos? That dog don’t hunt! I had a summer place there for 25 years. I flew my own plane in and out. The only black person I ever saw in Pike County was a business friend of my wife we flew in with us to go skiing at Tanglewood. And he got detained by the state police because someone stole a woman’s purse at a restaraunt 2 miles away.

Why not? You have Turkey’s Fethullah Gulen living there.

They’re new yorkers.

Don’t even live there.

Some areas of it have gotten bad. I read about a housing community called A Pocono Country Place in the town of Tobbyhanna. After 9/11, a lot of people from poorer parts of NYC (particularly Brooklyn and the Bronx) began moving there due to the lower housing costs and lower crime. They would actually spend 3 hours or so a day commuting to and from the city. Of course, they brought the crime with them. Because of the long commutes, teens were often left unsupervised for several hours, making it easy for them to cause trouble. The community has been referred to as “The Ghetto in the Woods” by some residents. It may have improved some, but 10 to 15 years ago, the crime was getting out of control.
