Catherine Herridge abruptly leaves Fox News, signs contract with CBS…

Catherine Herridge, a Fox News Channel veteran, is moving to rival CBS News. She will work as a senior investigative correspondent out of Washington, and will start in November.

Herridge is the second long-serving Fox News journalist to leave the Fox Corporation-owned cable-news outlet in recent weeks. Shepard Smith, another long-serving Fox News journalist who was seen as the network’s main news anchor, surprised viewers earlier this month by announcing his departure on a Friday-afternoon broadcast. Smith had tangled on air with opinion host Tucker Carlson.

The 55-year-old Harvard and Columbia University graduate was with Fox News since its inception in 1996.

”I have received great personal satisfaction from mentoring the next generation of reporters and producers and sharing my journalistic values — that facts matter and enterprise reporting will always win the day,” Herridge said in a statement.

Jay Wallace, president of Fox News Media, also lauded Herridge for her award-winning journalism.

“As a founding employee, over the last 23 years, Catherine Herridge has been an asset to Fox News. From her breaking news headlines at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to her reporting after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the investigation into Princess Diana’s death, she has always been at the forefront of every beat she has covered,” Wallace said in a statement. ”We are grateful for Catherine’s many contributions to the network, wish her continued success and were proud to honor her as she received the Tex McCrary Award for Journalism last week from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society for her enterprise reporting at Fox News.”

It must be FNC's strict new "No Pixie Cut" policy.

The shears are out for Jennifer Griffin.

Surprising that Rachel Maddow didn't offer refuge at MSNBC.

One slip of Perino's stylists fingers and it's "Bye, Dana."

She should have been given Shepherd Smiths slot.

Nobody wants a 3:00 PM daytime slot against "As the World Flips" or "General Nursing Care Hospital" or the "Young and the Restful", there are no viewers left.

Herridge brought a case against Fox News a dozen years back because she didn't want to sign a no-complaints clause, so I guess we'll eventually be hearing her complaints now. She's not going to have more freedom at CBS and she won't have more airtime. I suppose she'll get more money, though it's hard to think that CBS News really does generate a lot of money now - it must be that the entertainment operation pulls in a lot.

I see that Herridge grew up in Canada and started out covering Hillary Clinton. She's married to a career military man, which meant something 10 years ago and may mean something different now. Herridge seems to me to have fit in very well at Fox, but maybe she thinks she'll fit in better at CBS and that the place will be more congenial. I don't think that's going to work out that great, either.

She tweeted her departure: "I feel privileged to join a team where facts and storytelling will always matter," and Stelter headlined the story: "Fox News departure: Catherine Herridge joins CBS News, saying 'facts matter'" That's one of the things I hate about politics. Was her remark just a gracious way of talking about her new employer? Or was it a dig at FNC? Maybe a hint of revelations to come? Everything has a spin and is given a spin. Everything becomes a slogan and a weapon, and it's hard to know what the truth is, or if there is any truth at the bottom of all the spin.

I wonder if they will let her report what she finds on CBS.

Let's ask Sharyl Attkisson.

Great point.

One of these days Herridge will be digging into the Deep State and see her own face looking out.

Digging out the truth can be exhausting work.

Maybe she is just tired and wants to pile up a lot of money before retiring. I doubt CBS is interested in having her do honest reporting.

That’s a real loss. She is one of the best political reporters around, if not THE best. I just hope she doesn’t go all Bret Stephens over there at CBS.

She donated a kidney to her ailing newborn some years back. That took its physical toll and aged her prematurely. Too bad her character doesn’t trump a few wrinkles.

I really doubt she needs a “big payday”

She is a fine ,ne, unbased reporter, who was diligent in keeping her opinions to herself. I will miss Holly Golightly.
