I betcha ya don’t want to be a mass murderer in Russia, unlike the United States, where you are lionized by the media and treated with kid gloves by the judiciary. In your 50 years on death row, you are guaranteed at least eight sympathetic feature-length articles in magazines, and years of pretty young girls scheming to make your acquaintance and climb into your cot.

Incidents like this are fairly common in the Russian army because its NCO contingent is weak, poorly trained, and lacks adequate support, while the officer corps tends to lack closeness with the troops. The result is frequent bullying and exploitation of recruits, with genuinely troubled (or troublesome) enlisted men getting little in the way of counseling or weeding out.
