For some reason I am reminded of the Cuckoo bird,
It lays it’s egg in another nesting birds nest.
When it hatches it is larger than the others, with
the biggest mouth and so gets the majority of the
food brought by the unsuspecting parents and when it
gets large enough it shoves the other nestlings out
until it is the only mouth in the nest.
