Mild earthquakes are fun. They reset your day.

I was 45 miles from SF, when the big one hit in 1989. It was scary. It felt like the ground was rolling. Not a good feeling at all.

We had one here in DC in 2011. In the first second, I thought that a big piece of machinery in the building had exploded. Then I realized I’d experienced my first earthquake.

I don’t know how Californians get used to them.

When I went through the Northridge quake in '94 (6.7, and I was ~22 miles away in Pasadena), it felt like a freight train was running right outside my bedroom window.

This one (4.7, and I'm ~40 miles away) felt like a heavy truck went over a series of bumps nearby.

It beats driving through a white-out.
