The girl was ejected from a ride called "Extreme" at 6:18 p.m. and suffered serious injuries, New Jersey State Police said in a statement.
She was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. The girl has not been identified and the cause and circumstances of her death are still under investigation, police said.
Police said the "Extreme" is a Wisdom Super Sizzler amusement ride that spins passengers in a horizontal circle.
. Festival organizers canceled a parade that was scheduled for Sunday, but said other activities will go on as scheduled, according to its website.

I think it is a scrambler. I rode that thing with my wife and youngest son who was 8 at the time. We made a mistake by having him on the side of the seat where all of our weight was crushing him. We made it but never again. I feel bad for the family.
Brings back vivid memories. When I was a pre-teen, I rode the scrambler ride outside a local Houston grocery store. An elementary-age child whom I didn’t know was put into the seat beside me. He was crying and was making moves to jump out. I tried to stop him but he did fall out of the ride. I was interviewed by the Houston newspaper at the time at the local hospital very close by but as I recall he wasn’t seriously injured.
I’m glad there is at least one other person who thinks essentially the same of fair rides.
My wife will go on a few. I do t trust them at all.
It opened in 1904 and closed in 1967. It was the Golden Age of Amusement Parks !
The ride consisted of two people strapped in a belted plank seat which was attached to a large white open parachute. They were lifted slowly to the top of a very, very high metal tower where the top of their parachute made some kind of release contact...and they were suddenly and quickly dropped down, screaming all the way, to terra firma with the huge white parachute taut above them. Of course, at all times the ride was connected in some way to the tower, but the seat swung loose high above the ground. I had been up in a prior visit to the park.....and it was a breathtakingly SCARY ride.
It was a windy Chicago night, my parents got onto the ride while I watched from below.....and somehow the mechanism on their seat didn't release at the top of the tower. There they were, stuck on top, sitting with legs dangling on the small plank, swaying back and forth, frightened to death, while I watched in fear and trepidation from the ground. I had been on the Chutes in a prior visit to the park, and while the view was spectacular, it was a SCARY ride.
The workers finally got the chute to make contact with the release mechanism after the longest forty-five minutes on record, and down came my folks, ashen-faced and shaken.....to a great cheer from the gathered crowd, and to hugs from a very relieved daughter !

Wow, what a story! I have a picture of my dad and me at Riverview, but I was too young to remember it. After a woman in line at a ride threatened to stab my mother, our family didn’t go to Riverview anymore.

Look at the statements of everyone. I think its conspicuous that no one mentions praying for offering spiritual support for, ect.
In any local news do you think there might be spontaneous expressions of prayers.
Local news in NJ seems to be better here.
At least the local police force says “thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
Just my two cents, I think all expressions of faith are being scrubbed by CNN. The quotations conspicuously scrub out the words prayers from posts who actually say, “thoughts and prayers.”

Riverview Park! That is jogging lots of memories from the mid-1960’s.
Scrambler was about the only ride I would ever get on. It’s pretty tame.

Back in the late 1980’s a child was killed by touching the fence around a fair ride.
Electrocuted.
The ride had not been properly grounded.
After an investigation it turned out the all the fair rides were required to be inspected and certified by the county electrical inspector (don’t remember the official title) and it turned out that it was an appointed position and he wasn’t even a certified electrician
