Cavernous docks can shelter warships, with miles of tunnels, offices, and a hospital
Sweden’s navy HQ is returning to a vast underground cold war fortress designed to withstand a nuclear attack, in what has been seen as a defensive move against a resurgent Russia.
After a 25-year absence, the navy will once again be commanded from beneath billions of tonnes of granite as the country strives to build up its defences in response to the perceived threat from Moscow.
The top secret naval base on Muskö, about 25 miles (40km) from Stockholm, resembles a cross between Tracy Island from Thunderbirds and the film set of You Only Live Twice, where James Bond grappled with arch villain Ernst Blofeld in his headquarters beneath a volcano.
Completed in 1969, it boasts cavernous underground docks that can shelter warships, with miles of tunnels, offices and a hospital.
On its return to Muskö on Monday, the Swedish naval command said the new location would offer greater freedom of manoeuvre.
“The move is based on the calculation that the Russians could use powerful weapons which demand the level of protection that only Muskö can provide,” said Niklas Granholm, a senior analyst at the Swedish Defence Research Agency.

The biggest danger to Sweden is Islam, which they do not seem to realize.
So basically the muslims will have a virtually indestructible fortress in Sweden.
They should worry about the Muslim invaders already on their soil.

A fortress perhaps, but not really so secret.
In the event of a European conflict, the Russians would probably wish to secure the Baltic and its sea lanes, but I suspect they would have bigger priorities than Sweden, at least in the beginning. They would probably allow Sweden to assert neutrality, direct the fight elsewhere, and save Sweden for last. (If sucessful!)
Yep... Here’s Sweden being invaded and conquered by the Saracen hordes and Sweden smiles and spreads it’s legs, yet some marginal, probably imagined, threat by the Ruskies sends them into a severe bout of hysteria...

I would assume that this cool underground base only has one or two entrances. Seems easy enough to close those, and trap ships inside? Yay!

I agree with that. Islam is the biggest danger and it comes from within.
The Swedes don’t have to worry about the Russians. The muslims will take care of them.
They will need those caverns to shelter themselves when the immigrant hordes take over.
The muslims appreciate all that.
They’ll make better use of it once they take over.

This bullcrap about Russia and European conflict is getting tiresome. Russian defence budget is 10% or less than of US for about 20 last years and the number of personnel is 15% of Soviet strength. It is a purely a defensive force mainly focused on strategic component.
For comparison USSR continuously outspent US on military between 1927 and 1990 sometimes by a factor of ten and it didn’t take over Europe anyway. Why now?
Putin wants to reverse it. That’s why.
