It hasn’t been a good year to be a cop in New York City, but at 12:30 Sunday morning at the gang-plagued Edenwald Houses in the Bronx, bad became infinitely worse.
... Then onlookers loudly did their best to escalate the incident — wishing the cops on the scene dead, among other ugly things.
How many cops on the beat fear ending up as a scapegoat — as did Daniel Pantaleo, fired in the Garner case — and hesitate for a fatal split-second in responding to a lethal challenge?
It doesn’t help that many cops believe, quite reasonably, they’ve been abandoned by the de Blasio administration — and by New York’s political culture itself.
The NYPD is a rare and precious public resource and never is that more obvious than when an officer dies in service to the city.

Just heard at the 4:30 news break that the officer was killed by friendly fire. Deceased officer fired 5 shots, other officer(s?) fired 10.
If I was a billionaire, I would set up a fund to pay every single cop salary so they can walk off the job for a month including legal to keep them from being fired. Prolly have a goon squad to discourage scabs too

That's exactly what happened in Baltimore since they (unsuccessfully) prosecuted 6 cops for the Freddie Gray death. Cops stopped taking chances and have been hesitant to answer situations in "high-crime" neighborhoods. The murder rate has soared. Also in "high-crime" neighborhoods.)
36K police X 6K per month average salary = 216 million for one month's salary alone.

Still, with lots of friends on the force, you might be able to recoup it...
