I served 17 straight 12-hour shift days in the Pentagon’s Intelligence Command post over this. I got a call that Friday night, to be in uniform at the Pentagon at 22:00.
Not to be a whiner, but after day five I did ask the Colonel in charge when I would get a day off.
He said, “When it’s over and the hostages are released.”
I replied, “But Sir, the Iranians kept the hostages for 444* days!”
He said, “Well, Sergeant, you better hope this one doesn’t last as long.”
I did laugh. It was cruel, but clever.
The hostages were freed two weeks later.
Still, to this day, I’ve wanted these Muslim bastards hanged. How they were forgotten about over the years used to piss me off.
Glad to hear this, but I want to see the Greeks turn him over to us so we can execute him.
*Remember when Ted Koppel used to count the days? That’s how I knew.
Payback is a dish best served cold.
The idea’s origin is obscure. The French diplomat Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord (17541838) has been credited with the saying, “La vengeance est un met que l’on doit manger froid”
“Revenge is a dish that must be eaten cold”
