I have Windows 7. The Microsoft Office Starter 2010 stopped working last night with a pop up window -
"This version of Microsoft Application Virtualization is incompatible with this version of Microsoft Office lick-to-Run. For more information, contact your system administrator."
Vampistro... lol
I would think if the only changes on your PC and its applications are Win 7 updates, that something happened with the latest Win 7 update, and maybe?? it is the 1st time you’ve went to use the office app since that update.
If so, back-out/uninstall that last Win 7 update and quit doing Win 7 updates. Whatever antivirus apps you are running now in Win 7 will not mind if you quit doing Win 7 updates.
After that go on the theory if it ain’t broke, no need to “fix” it.
Yes, the plan is to delete the update later when the son gets packed and I have some peace and quiet and can concentrate on one thing. One would think an adult didn’t have to ask mama every two seconds where his shoes, his shaving kit, his phone, his..... is.
You’re probably going to have download WordStar or LibreOffice, if you don’t the registration number.
Here is one you can try at your own risk. I have never done it myself.
In Control Panel, uninstall Click-to-Run, reboot your computer, and then run Setup for Click-to-Run again.
I had a tech support guy at an ISP tell me once that my software was worn out.
Maybe that’s the problem.
From what I understand, LibreOffice is a turbo charged version of OpenOffice.
lol... Sounds like he got too many calls from folks who had no clue of proper terminology and changed his explanations to simple layman terms for them to understand. :)
A couple of Skype For Business installations gave me tons of grief.
MS support my company pays for was useless.
UAC was the culprit one time. Another was one that fixed itself one day after days off off and on attempts. I tried every bit of fix it advice I could find.
I moved this person to another new W10 machine and then another. SFB refused to load no matter what on the first new one.
Somehow, the 2nd new one didn’t work after doing the usual dances. I did a repair with a version I found on MS. Miracle of miracles, Skype ran.
This person is just a paper shuffler, same user name stuff everywhere. Nobody else in Skype land had this level of trouble.
First, there are ways to find your Windows product key. I did it on my wife’s Windows 10 PC with factory installed software from watching a youtube video. It took a little while, but it worked first time. Here’s the Windows 10 video I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqJbsvIytyM
or
Why not buy yourself a Windows 7 license, or maybe upgrade to Windows 10? They start around $2 for 7. I suggest you go with a seller with a verified history of delivering licenses.

How about Windows 7? He isn’t using Linux.
Thanks, everyone.
After messing with it all day, found out MS Office is a goner and no other choice but to download Open Office. The good thing is all the documents are there in Open Office so nothing lost.
A quick consult with the computer shop guy verified what some of us felt about just not bothering with any further updates on 7. And that most everyone he sees can’t stand 10.
Thanks for the ping
Yep, There is an alternative that feels and functions almost the exact same as win 7. Linux Mint has come a long way from the techy OS it used to be. The Cinnamon comes loaded with a great software package and if loaded “dual boot” alongside windows you can still access all your Win files from the linux to move them over to linux folders, even your MS office doc files into LibreOffice.
MS has purposely put folks up against the wall, but there really is a very advantageous way out of the trap that works well. With this particular Distro the learning curve is Nill, any windows user can jump on and fly with this new OS.
Please go read the last paragraph of the original post on page one.
try safe mode.
How to start Office for Windows applications in Office Safe Mode

If you can’t start a Microsoft Office application in Office Safe Mode or you have recurring problems opening applications in normal mode, you can try to repair Office. For more information, go to Repair an Office application
