He had the right skin tone and was an “amazing” dad according to drive-by media reporting.

Didn’t sound too amazing to me.

No they’re not... they involve circumstances of carelessness and that’s what happened with this guy. Ever heard of muscle memory. When someone is used to doing something a certain way they can easily end up forgetting they have a child in the back seat. Especially if the kiddo is asleep. It happens a lot. A lot of time they’re absolutely about negligence... a parent intentionally leaving a child to go drinking or something... but there are those cases where it’s far removed from negligence. This appears to be one of those cases.

......they didn’t investigate his computer/s, phones, texts, emails.....

Good point...in the last notorious case of child car abandonement ......
they found the dad surfing porn sites at work while the baby baked in the car.

nah my $$ is on brain freeze. Plugged in to his phone, earpiece, something had his attention.
Now, I’m not saying that’s right! How anything can be more important than your babies welfare, I don’t know. But in this day, everybody’s attention is on something else.
JMHO.

As a mom, I cannot fathom not checking on my one year olds- certainly if someone else brought them to day care.

If they left the house at 0600 or so and we’re to return at 6 PM

Well I can’t imagine leaving a one year old with strangers all day. That is sick in the head. Part of the sickness in our culture

But to not check in them all day? N.O. Nope.

No way

The dad was a dope. More reason to check.

Guy kills 2 babies and walks because he “forgot” he had them in the car?

I guess since “there was no intent” all is good.

I think the legal system has become a completer crap shoot. If it's an accident? If there is no intent? You might be able to do anything you want. Get away with treason or murder? [shrug] That's just the way it goes, right?

Myself, as a tax-paying, law-abiding pillar of my community, I have the feeling that if I ever slip up in even a small way, they would bankrupt me and try to send me to prison. You know, because the law says so.

This should teach parents a lesson: always assume there’s someone in the back seat, even if you’re one hundred percent certain there’s not. It only takes a second to look.

And isn’t this the same state that will PROSECUTE you for having your cat de-clawed?

But not for criminal negligence resulting in death, at a minimum.

Absolutely. He us in mine anyway.

But I had to ponder why it is that police decline what I would otherwise perceive as a slam dunk.

Three things I’m rather sure of:

1. This was an accident.
2. The grand jury would have have found him criminally negligent.
3. Now there is precedent: He got away with it. Why shouldn’t I?

The prosecutor probably figured that he'd never get a conviction in a case like this.

When murder or manslaughter cases are prosecuted in court, one of the most powerful weapons a prosecutor has is the grief-stricken testimony of surviving family members. In cases like this, the testimony from surviving family members will almost certainly undermine any prosecution.

The three-year-old should have been wearing a life jacket.

I disagree!

Many years ago, I used to drop my daughter off on a sporadic basis at my Mother In Law’s house on the way to work. A couple of times my mind wondered and I got almost all the way to work before I realized she was still back there. It still makes my heart race to think about how close I may have come to parking at work and leaving her in the car.

It is amazing how quiet a baby/toddler can be at times. On top of thinking about things work related on the way in, I can definitely see it happening.

I am glad everything is so simple for you, and that you are perfect.
