Neither male nor female: Why some nonbinary people are 'microdosing' hormones

Marisa Rivas never felt comfortable living as a woman, but doesn’t identify as a man either.

Last year, Rivas, 30, a college admissions coordinator in Los Angeles, had a mastectomy. This year, Rivas started using gender-neutral “they” and “them” pronouns.

Then, at the end of June, Rivas went to the Los Angeles LGBT Center in West Hollywood to talk to a doctor about going on “low-dose” testosterone, known colloquially as “microdosing.” Rivas hopes to achieve a sharper jawline and a more androgynous physique without overtly masculine features like facial hair. The goal is an appearance that is not clearly male or female.

I think these “freaks” are victims to some extent. They are being brainwashed from an early age by people I suspect don’t wish them well.

Here is my question: if she didn't feel comfortable living as a woman, but wished to take hormones to feel better, why didn't she take estrogen?

Whoever convinced these impressionable people that their sense of confusion and alienation is due to being born male or female should be imprisoned. Mutilating one’s body due to a mental misperception is not going to help anyone. Statistics point to increased likelihood of mental illness and suicide attempts after so-called transitioning. This is a huge scam perpetrated no doubt for profit, somehow, somewhere. I suppose Obamacare covers it?

Being mentally ill doesn’t determine one’s sex.

O.K. I get it. Here is my understanding of the woman:

“I have a mental problem. My mind is confused about sex. So I want some drugs to help make my body look as confused about sex as is my mind.”

A person that cannot accept the body that has been produced by the same DNA that formed the brain (part of the same bidy), does not have a problem with their brain. They just have a problem with their mind - their thinking. It is treatable and more would be seeking treatment if society was not celebrating their mental problems.

Why is society celebrating their mental problems? It starts with misplaced sympathy and compassion. Fighting mental problems and particularly mental obsessions is a difficult process and takes hard work and strong effort. It obviously seems, at the start, less “stressful” to just accept the obsession, instead of working to deny it control. Parental kindness enabling the obsession is misplaced, and in the long run not compassionate at all. It commits the young person to surgical mutilation of their body and a life of medical and drug interventions to preserve the appearance that the body is a sex that it is not. It is JUST an appearence, the DNA in every cell knows better.

When I was young I often visited my extended family "out in the country" for days during Christmas breaks and saw one my grandmother, uncles, aunts, and cousins. I would stay and different ones' houses different nights. There was one year that I spent the night at my grandmother's during New Year's Day.

New Year's Day meant bowl games, especially the Sugar Bowl. On this evening it was just me and Granny, her in her rocking chair and me on a quilt pallet she made for me in the floor. I don't remember who was playing that night (probably a 50/50 chance it was Bama since the Sugar Bowl was practically a regularly scheduled game for them back in the Bear days). I do remember the announcers going on and on about the quarterback, the running back, the receivers, etc.

Finally Granny couldn't sit still and let her grandson get such disinformation without correcting it. She turned to me and more serious than I remember her saying anything else in my life she said to me in a half-teaching, half-fussing tone: "The linemen don't get enough respect. The game is won or lost at the line of scrimmage." All I could do was stammer a meek "yes, ma'am".

Granny was right then. Decades later and long after she passed away Granny is still right. I thought about her almost every play during the national championship Bama lost to Clemson. Almost every time Clemson hiked the ball their QB had enough time to take a nap. But almost every time Bama hiked the ball our QB had to be in a hurry. :)

Here in the south in a month and a half there will be many Saturdays where women act like men and drink and cuss at the TV yelling, “Run the dang ball!!!”....all without growing facial hair or having to undergo breast reductions. :)

The Columbus, Georgia Little League baseball moms were the best about that. They can say and do the same thing the dads and coaches do, but it comes out in an utterly feminine way that only a southern woman can pull off.

They are also the ones who keep the C ball teams humming because while the coaches are teaching the six year olds to keep in front of the ball and to throw to the right base, the moms are the ones who lovingly help the four year old catcher put his gear on in the middle of the inning, and organizes the players' gear in little baskets, make sure the after game snacks and drinks are where they ought to be, and keep the lineups straight. Oh, and encouraging the little guys when they strike out, unless they were struck out looking.

Why is this mentally disturbed person working in a management position in a College admissions position. How can she make decisions on such subitle nuances as college admission when she can not even understand something as obvious as her own gender?!

Female
Androgynous
Let those in the “Andro” community worry about finding the one no-offensive nomenclature for each and stop worrying what normal folks think of them - should make them much happier.
