On Sunday, Rapinoe said her gesture was a nod towards Kaepernick.
“It was very intentional,” Rapinoe told American Soccer Now after the game.
“It was a little nod to Kaepernick and everything that he’s standing for right now.
I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way he was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn’t.

Instead of using that older version of the American flag, Trump Jr. suggested Nike should unveil a communist-style shoe looking similar to the hammer-and-sickle logo of the former Soviet Union.
"If the Betsy Ross Flag, the flag of the American Revolution, is too offensive for Nike to commemorate The 4th of July maybe Nike should go with this... seems to be more in line with their views," Trump Jr. tweeted on Wednesday.
His attack came as Nike faced mounting criticism over its decision to halt the release of a shoe that had the Betsy Ross flag because it could "unintentionally offend" people.

Megan and the rest of the United States Women’s National Team were in town to celebrate their FIFA World Cup victory.
After the parade made its way up the “Canyon of Heroes” to the steps of City Hall, Megan was given the mic.
After she gave a rousing speech that encouraged everyone to “love each other” more and hate each other less, she gave a little love to the Big Apple.
“New York City, you’re the mother*cking best!”
The vulgarity won over the hearts of many fans watching and many hoped that she would run for president.
