Urgent consultations in Washington, Moscow on reported US-Russian submarines in firefight

Jul 2, 2019 @ 22:24 Diane Shalem First reports reaching DEBKAfile’s military sources say that a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear sub in American waters opposite Alaska. The Russian sub escorting the nuclear submarine responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo and scuttled the US vessel. Urgent consultations in both the White House and the Kremlin were taking place on Tuesday night. US Vice President Mike Pence called off an appearance in New Hampshire after being recalled to Washington for a conference called by President Donald Trump without explanation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin cancelled an engagement and headed for the Kremlin to confer with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and military chiefs, after learning that 14 submariners died in a fire that broke out on a nuclear-powered “experimental submarine in Russian waters.” This account carried in Russian media varies in most respects from the first reports reaching this site and may refer to a separate incident. They report between 14 and 17 members of an AS-12 nuclear powered submarine died of poisonous fumes caused by a fire aboard the vessel. The submarine was described as experimental and unarmed but often used in spy missions. It is unclear how many of the 25 crew survived. Local media suggest four or five are receiving treatment in Severomorsk’s military hospital for poisoning and concussion injuries. Another news account said the majority of the officers died in or on their way to hospital. These reports do not cite the cause of the fire.

The Debka article I really liked was the "nuclear LAND MINES" one from about 10 years back.

That one was a doozy.

Sounds really bad.

“First reports reaching DEBKAfile’s military sources say that a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear sub in American waters opposite Alaska. Terrible about the poor people on the US sub.

But starting WW-3 is still not the solution.

Back during WWII submarines did torpedo other submarines.

The writing indicates English is a third or fourth language.

It's an Israeli disinformation source. And not a very good one.

so from other reporting, the russkies have a deep sea submersible that caught fire July 1 killing 14. Its generally launched from a mother sub for special ops, intelligence missions. My guess is pence was recalled because the Russians can't get to the submersible (crush depth over 6000 feet) to see if any one is left alive or if the nuke reactor is a problem. One thing we do know is the Russians likely don't know when we're stalking them so a first strike is out.

Debka may not be considered fully reliable, but I have seen them reporting things first, before anyone else, and eventually the MSM picks it up.

At least you admit Debka is Debka.

Their site traffic must be down, time to say something outrageous to get the ad revenue back up.

Does anyone really need to explain why this is utter nonsense?

The only news sources with less credibility are the New York Times and Washington Post.

I know... debka. I should know better. But still...

If a U.S. sub was sunk it won't take long for it to come out. Until then Debka is about as reliable as the Weekly World News was.

Governor Palin competently handled such issues from her post in Alaska thank you very much and upon his 2008 invasion of the country of Georgia, predicted Putin’s seizure of Crimea and parts of Ukraine to the laughter and naysaying of mockers such as yourselves.

Palin is not merely a likable conservative, but competent in dealing with the complex likes of foreign, military, and energy matters as well.

She was dealing with the likes of Rex Tillerson and Exxon for example, long before Tillerson was even on the national stage as our lead diplomat. And she had a strong handle on the kind of moves leaders such as Putin would make.

Look at all that has unfolded since 2008 in terms of Russia’s mischief, our own geopolitical mishaps, and the ridiculous state of our relations with them.

Would have been nice to have someone like Governor Palin at the nation’s helm.
