A friendly black bear was euthanized after it came to love people who fed it and took selfies

Wildlife officials say they were forced to euthanize a friendly young black bear after it grew too familiar with people who regularly fed and took selfies with it.

Since the beginning of June, Oregon police received regular calls about the bear, which was usually spotted near its favorite boat ramp at an Oregon park.

On Thursday, they found the animal surrounded by a pile of trail mix and sunflower seeds that appeared to have been left behind intentionally by some passersby. The police concluded the bear had grown too habituated to human interaction, and could pose a threat to people's safety, so they made the difficult decision to shoot and kill it.

Methhead? Acid junkie? Gangbanger? Pedophile? Nope. Those are welcome in Oregon. Encouraged, even. Those people are sick.

There isn’t that much “way, way, back in the wilderness” anymore and the cost of relocating a bear is a lot. If the taxpayers are willing to pay for it.

I came as close as I have ever come to a black bear, this past weekend.

Two of them, actually.

Was doing some fishing at a friend’s place “Up North”. at 6 AM, a black bear came wondering through the front yard, nose down, sniffing for something. Walked right passed the front window at a distance of about 20 feet. About 300 pounds.

Three hours later, a LARGE cinnamon-phase black bear came walking the same route, sniffing the same areas as the first. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 pounds!

Up close and personal. Thank goodness for triple pane glass.

I like this bear. Should’ve been taken to a zoo.

But it’s Oregon-where those found in a ‘wrong’ of some kind need to be destroyed.

The bear posing a threat to people's safety is very plausible - this is a wild animal that has gotten used to handouts, not someone's pet dog. The bear was no longer afraid of people, and if it didn't get the food it expected or if it was just in a bad mood on a certain day, it was perfectly capable of causing harm to any people nearby. The people to blame this bear's death are the dummies who decided it would amuse them to feed a wild animal.

What makes my blood boil even more is idiot American voters who think socialized medicine here won’t ever deteriorate to the same callous level.

Yet we give generations of Americans womb to the tomb handouts. 50+ years in the War on Poverty and some families never moved out of it.

The police knew about the bear for the last two weeks, but did not call any fish and game officers to help deal with it?
