There are discrete ways to accomplish this task, and there are not so discrete ways to do it.

Women have no idea how the non-discrete ways put men on the spot.

I’ve been around women breast feeding in public, and in this day and age, every guy is suspect. I swear, you can look the other direction 99.9999% of the time, but invariable a commotion or something draws your attention, and without thinking you look in the direction of the commotion.

Invariably it will be right behind the breast feeding mom, and there you are looking in her direction, and she’s looking right back at you with a great big glare on her face.

I support breast feeding because I think it helps with bonding. I also realize it helps transfer various immunities and nutrition to the child.

I’m not convinced the pool is the greatest place for a ten month old.

It would seem to me that mom could feed the child just before going to the pool, stay for a while, and be back at home within two hours. She could also pump her milk for such occasions.

I do not think all mothers swarming to the pool lessens the impact of a woman exposing a part of her anatomy that appeals to men, with the line, “It’s just a natural thing to do.”

Going to the bathroom is a natural thing to do. I don’t whip out a cup and my equipment and do the natural think out of a respect for others.

Cover up. Do it discretely, and I have no problem. I’ll still try to look away, but it’s not like I would be seeing something if I didn’t. And yep, that’s what guys need to be safe these days.

Why look behind her? Let her glare - if she gets enough people staring at her, maybe she'll do the smart thing and buy one of the nursing shirts or use the burping towel to cover up. Either way, it's a benefit. She'll cover up and be more modest next time, or you get to see some boobies!

Excellent post. Just be discrete and nobody gives a damn. It is really a beautiful function of mother and child. Just be discrete so as not to start problems.

There is no right to be “free from being put on the spot.”
