BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You’re surely not suggesting they would’ve used him at 3rd or 4th in order??!!!!
YOU DO NOT PITCH AROUND SINGLES HITTERS. EVER. THAT’S JUST ABSURD.
On the 1990s Yankees, Rose would’ve bat 9th. No, scratch that: 8th. They used 9th place for guys who can steal bases. No scratch that: there’s no way in Hell they’d ever stick a bat in the hand of a DH with a career slugging percentage of .409.
Career slugging percentages of Yankees’ 1996 1B and DH guys:
Cecil Fielder, .482 (.494 that year)
Tino Martinez, .471 (.466)
Tim Raines, .437 (808 stolen bases) (.468)
Darryl Strawberry, .505 (.490 that year)
Reuben Sierra, .450 (.403)
Yeah... a lot of those guys spent a lot of time ON THE BENCH. They sure as hell wouldn’t have let a screw-up like Pete Rose take their place in the order!

Pete Rose led the league in doubles repeatedly. There is space betweena singles hitter and a Dave Kingman-0style slugger.
Did you WATCH baseball in the '70s? If Rod Carew is at bat with a runner on second, yeah, he was pitched around.
Willie Randolph sometimes got pitched around, especially if Bucky Dent was on deck.
Rose wouldn't have been in the 3rd or 4th spot, but he might have been in the fifth spot on a different team.

I was talking about the '70s Braves who were 40 games out of first place. I never mentioned the '90s Yankees. Heck he probably would have batted 7th or 8th on the late '70s Milwaukee Brewers, one of the most potent lineups that never got much recognition due to no bullpen. On the '70s Yankees, they were heavily into the lefty/righty thing so guys like Paul Blair/Roy White/Gary Thomason were platooned. Rose was a switch-hitter. On the '70s championship Yankees tems, I would see Rose batting behind Reggie Jackson in the fifth spot, instead of Lou Pinella or Chris Chambliss (neither had much power or speed).
For lineup comparisons, I prefer to compare within eras as the game changes, and to keep it within the league due to the stupid DH the AL has. On the 77 Dodgers, Rose would have batted second (if he could have played shortstop, he wasn't displacing Cey or Garvey) as he was a good contact hitter, and didn't hity into a lot of double plays, but NObody was going to move Davey Lopes from the leadoff spot.
