Evidently it was profitable. Otherwise it would have been discontinued.

They shouldn’t raise it unless they allow the confederate monuments to continue to be displayed as well. Goose, gander, good, etc.

Shhhh….dirty little secret the liberals don't want you do know about: the reason this ship was a smuggling effort was because of Thomas Jefferson, their new evil because he owned slaves. He's the one who pushed for and signed into law the banning of transporting new slaves.

By the way, he pushed for abolition in his home state of Virginia before he pushed for abolition in our new country. And he tried to free all the slaves he inherited but the then state law forbade it (because citizenship of slaves had to be approved by the court, and because they had a law banning the freeing of slaves by anyone who had debt, which he had much of after the Brits punished him financially for being a "traitor").

“Captain Foster was working for Timothy Meaher, a wealthy Mobile shipyard owner and steamboat captain, who had built Clotilda in 1856 for the lumber trade. Meaher was said to have wagered some “Northern gentlemen” from New England, who likely provided the financing for the illegal venture, that he could successfully smuggle slaves into the US despite the 1807 Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves. “

I have knowledge of a much more serious and much more extensive effort to accomplish the same thing that was attempted around 1810. The Spanish still owned Florida at the time, and the plan was to create a massive slave transhipment facility in Florida, and then simply smuggle them across the border into the US.

I learned of the details of this plan by chasing after information regarding "Natural Born Citizen." The man who had come up with the plan, and very nearly carried it through was "James McClure."

He was being backed by a bunch of British merchants, but thanks to Ambassador John Armstrong, he ended up in French custody for a year or so, so his plan was thwarted.

In this case smuggle is the correct word.

It wasn’t cheaper, it was done on a bet by a Mobile based shipping merchant. Sick bastards are not a 21st century innovation it turns out.

Almost ALL the major ships were owned by a shrewd type of person always alleging they never had anything to do with slavery. And who wants you to constantly commemorate stuff you didn’t do, and which you in fact stopped.

Gaijin cannot help himself. He sees "shrewd Jews" everywhere. But is too timid to use the word directly. Does he know that there were a very small number of Jews in the US at this time in history? Probably not. But still they were responsible for the slave all of the major slave ships. Poor Gaijin. Being possessed by such an obsession must be difficult for the soul.

Wow. Horrible. We know people are capable of anything - they would casually throw a ship full of captives overboard and make sure they all sank. Very depraved. God is going to be very busy on Judgement Day.

Oh no! This will reignite the ‘reparations’ debate like nothing else.

Now you watch and see how many claim that THEIR ancestor(s) were on that very ship!........................

Descendants of the Clotilda settled in Africatown, Alabama.

From earlier this year...

Yeah. They were sold by Africans and brought to America. And after the ban in 1808 they were smuggled. It is estimated that about 50,000 slaves were illegally transported into the states after the ban-which means they were smuggled into the US. If it is your contention the number is ZERO-you are very much mistaken and you do not understand human nature at all. I invite you to the Texas border where the smuggling of people across the border is also illegal and happens every day.

Think of it this way - if we destroy the ship, destroy the history of slavery then black people won’t have anything to feel bad about and white people won’t suffer guilt.

Makes it easier to enslave future citizens too...

ISIS blowing up ancient Buddha statues...liberal thugs tearing down visions of Robert E Lee on horseback...

George Orwell would approve.

Inquiring minds want to know:

Who kidnapped those humans
Who sold those humans
Those questions are never asked by the urinalists.

Now, with the current flooding of Europe and USA with poor people, did the Slave Merchants convince some folks to get on a ship using lies of a better life somewhere else??

Are todays coyotes, smuggleing folks in beat up trucks, or marching folks through a desert carrying backpacks full of drugs, different from the Slave Merchants???

I don’t know about this particular ship, but in the 17th and 18th century, Sub-Saharan Africans who refused to convert to Islam were sold as slaves by invading Arabs and other Islamic peoples...........................Why so many American blacks want to convert to Islam is a puzzle..................

For those who missed it, here is a thread citing the story of Cudjo, who was transported on Clotilda’s voyage to Mobile.

Be sure to also check the link in the posts to a “vulture” website that has the complete narrative. Fascinating.
