I've spent 64 summers swimming and fishing in Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod Bay, and the Outer Beaches along the Atlantic. Over the last 20 years, I have fished extensively from a small boat.

About ten years ago, we gave up swimming from the boat around the Outer Beaches because of the presence of these sharks and the pollution of the water from the thousands of seals. Last year, we gave up swimming from the boat in Cape Cod Bay as well because of the increased presence of these fish.

Until last year, I landed all my fish by hand. After seeing the videos from party boats, hearing stories from other anglers, and seeing a couple white sharks around my boat, I bought a landing net. It's an inconvenience in a small boat but absolutely necessary now.

What people don't realize about white sharks is they are primarly near the bottom swimmers, and on the Bay side the water is deeper and darker , and we probably have more whites around than it appears.

A few years ago when that whale carcass was floating on the Bay side 6 whites appeared and were feeding on it.- Tom
