That's a shame, it would be great if they could extract DNA from the ammonite as they've done for insects preserved in amber.

There is no DNA, only minerals. Molecules and atoms slowly leak out over millions of years. Nothing preserves for that long.

But it may be possible to have the DNA code preserved as mineral rock.

Actual DNA only preserves for 10,000s of years, not millions.
