Roquefort is a type of blue cheese. They weren’t lying, just not as specific as they might have been (if they knew it was Roquefort).


Yes it is. The FDA has stated they must be listed by name Blue Cheese, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Stilton cheese. Some of the cheeses have higher mold contant than others, thus the seperate listings.

Okay, I had no idea. They still weren’t lying as Roquefort is indeed a type of blue cheese. They weren’t complying with some sort of FDA regulation. That’s different.

Also, the difference appears to be that Roquefort is from sheep’s milk and thus has to be identified as such.

That law appears to apply only to food labeling for packaged foods sold for interstate commerce:
