Well you did not write that they were in great shape, but nor did I state that you did. However, that All Out Communist isn't lying. The subways are extremely crowded on Sundays here.
This is due to the tremendous amount of deferred maintenance that they are finally doing. So many lines are not running on the weekends or are rerouted that it's necessary to google map your route on weekends if you plan on using the subway, no matter how well you know the system. And expect delays and crowds.
Where the heck are you? Carnarsie???
Astoria.
For the last two years on weekends, the N frequently terminates at Queensboro Plaza, and the E and F keep trading lines. If you go to Queensbridge on the weekend without checking google, the F will be at Queens Plaza. If you go to Queens Plaza, the E will be at Queensbridge. And of course the G doesn’t run into Queens at all when those trains are f’d up too.
But sometimes the subway roulette works out. I was in the LES at the Delancey/Essex station one Sunday and needed to go to Penn Station. I was running late and oddly enough, an A train showed up! That was perfect and hilarious.
