Q Ping - NEW THREAD

FReeQs, we're having some on-thread interaction that appears to be (negatively) impacting morale so I will put forth a few ideas for your consideration in response.

A. We had a timely reminder regarding off-topic content that I think is beneficial to revisit. We know there are at least two basic camps on our threads in this regard - those who thrive on our threads in a social environment and those whose focus on Q content is distracted by it. Since we know that we can't have it both ways simultaneously, regard for both viewpoints, and respect for our focus on the Q movement, seems likely to foster the best of the WWG1WGA spirit.

The thread tends to favor those who prefer the social aspects to the detriment of those who favor focused content because, human nature being what it is, it's easy to forget about the dilution factor when we're having fun. If we all keep the dilution factor in mind, particularly when key Q drops are arriving, evaluating what can be enjoyed on PM or on Festival, or whether continuous chains of fun graphics might be broken up into smaller chunk, should help avoid drowning out Q content.

B. The issue of inappropriate content (per FR rules) on our threads has at times sapped the morale of our participants. Again, I wonder to what extent the Festival portion of the prior thread could help us out here. We have two camps (at least) regarding this issue - those who find certain content offensive and those who don't. This battle has been fought in the public sphere for who-knows-how-long and I hope that we need not repeat much of those age-old battles here, on the only Q thread on FR.

Most of us cannot control whether we find content offensive or humorous so value judgments will probably be pointless and divisive.

I think I understand the exasperation of those who "scroll on by" content that doesn't interest them, and expect others to do the same without protest. They sometimes express frustration and some feel others are attempting to dictate humor or speech standards.

However, "scroll on by" doesn't work as well as hoped because all must see and understand the content prior to experiencing an (involuntary) reaction to it, so we cannot "choose not to see it" anymore than we can we choose our innate response (humor or revulsion). For (an extreme) example, I (sadly) cannot remove from my memory the image of a cadaver in a tank of formaldehyde posted on FR years ago, nor my revulsion to it.

Many of those objecting to graphic content chose Free Republic specifically because of its family content focus (rare in today's Internet) and are not likely to understand being criticized for their expectations of avoiding graphic content, particularly by those who chose FR in spite of its content limitations.

For those wishing to avoid graphic content, it can seem like they are being tricked into viewing or reading content not appropriate for this website, and then scolded if they object. For them, they are receiving the message that they have no right to avoid content they find disturbing to peace of mind, religious faith etc. and to "pipe down" and silent consume what others decide to feed them.

Banks, grocery stores, post offices etc. recognized these natural differences among people and settled on standards that would accommodate as many as possible, regardless of the individual tastes of participants. Jim Rob seems to have done the same thing as a means of sharing the platform harmoniously with as many patriots as possible.

Is it possible that the FESTIVAL portion of the prior threads could serve as a break room of sorts, where graphic content, particularly that which is likely to be deleted (e.g., bestiality) can be enjoyed until it's removed without disrupting the morale of the active thread? If it's not imagery, then perhaps a language or graphic warning at the top of the post so those who want to "scroll on by" without understanding the content can do so?

In the interests of WWG1WGA, I'm hopeful epithets or criticism of natural differences can be avoided at all costs - we don't choose our differences, but we can choose to see past them to STAY TOGETHER knowing that we are STRONGER TOGETHER.

If you haven't read it yet, I recommend the latest edition of The Oracle.
