Yesterday I measured my blood glucose when I was experiencing ravenous thirst. I would drink a quart of water, then on the last gulp, experience an intense thirst. I knew something was wrong.
I measured on the meter and it said "HIGH, OVER 600 mg/dL". It was too high for the meter.
I took 40 units of long-acting insulin and 50 units of a sliding-scale immediate-acting insulin, and in 4 hours I was at 460 mg/dL b/g. Based on how insulin is processed in my body, I extrapolate that at one point I was at 1,100 mg/dL b/g.
I felt death close by me.
I am so concerned about a thug or a government killing me, but the reality is I will die from disease. All my guns won't protect me from diabetes.
Holy Crap Laz, hopefully this was just a bad anomoly.
Take care of yourself, Laz!
I’ve always pictured you dying at the ripe old age of 98 - shot in the back by a jealous husband...
All of my hugs and love to you. This disease is a witch. My son dxed at age 3.. I am glad you are ok.
Ps Hope the diet and exercise idiots show up soon.
See you doctor. NOW.
Good God Laz!!
Shouldn’t you be in a hospital or something??
My fasting glucose was 192 last year and i have to take it again this month and being a fat #### I’m concerned. Not concerned enough to stop stuffing my face though :(
Bro, please get to a doctor today at least.
I know for me, the booze has sugar too.
Follow up on this with us so we know you’re ok!!
Time to start fasting.
Stay on insulin, even overnight use long acting.
After two days your liver will clear most of the sugars in your liver.
Stay on water, black coffee, bone meal, and have pickles for salt.
It depends on your BMI, but you can lose it.
wow! Type I or Type II?
You need to be under the care of a competent endocrinologist.
Exercise. Walk. Alter your diet.
I’ve been there. I’ve had Type II for 10+ years.
Take care of yourself, Laz.
Hugs and prayers Laz. I remember praying for your dear mom when she passed. You would be missed by many so hang in there.
Get well Laz. We need you.
"We're all gonna die from something."....Jocelyn Elders................
That’s rather high. Love ya man, take care of yourself.
Are you type 1 or type 2? Excuse my ignorance on the symptoms of both.
Take care - I’m a Type 2. A month ago, I started using the Libre Freestyle with the adhesive disc you wear for 2 weeks so I could take readings anytime. I’ve learned a lot about how my body reacts to my oral meds and the foods I eat. I think I’m getting better control and I’m looking forward to a better A1c reading at my next doctor appointment.
Join the club.
I say the same thing to every twit who tells me that Global Warming will destroy the planet. After I tell them its a cult religion, I tell them NO, you are going to die of a stroke, heart failure, a car accident, cancer, or maybe even be robbed and murdered in your home. So be positive!
God bless and best regards
Fasting hyperglycemia is defined as when you don’t eat for at least eight hours. Recommended range without diabetes is 70 to 130mg/dL. (The standard for measuring blood glucose is “mg/dL” which means milligrams per deciliter.) If your blood glucose level is above 130mg/dL, that’s fasting hyperglycemia. Fasting hyperglycemia is a common diabetes complication.
Postprandial or reactive hyperglycemia occurs after eating (postprandial means “after eating”). During this type of hyperglycemia, your liver doesn’t stop sugar production, as it normally would directly after a meal, and stores glucose as glycogen (energy sugar stores). If your postprandial (1-2 hours after eating) blood glucose level is above 180mg/dL, that’s postprandial or reactive hyperglycemia.
Laz, my friend. I pray you get this under control. Now.
I will pray for you Laz.((((Hugs))))
My youngest brother has diabetes and is on Ozempic epipen. He was laid off a couple of weeks ago and we are having a time getting him out of depression.
