The order being a read from left to right bothered me, frankly. “Light to Darkness”, instead of the read from the other way around— “Darkness to Light”.

I noticed that too. The viewer must be facing South. (Sun rises in the East so it gets light in the East first, the East is on your left when facing. South...)
