I recently watched a terrible movie called “The Breaker Upperers”. (Wife picked it.) It was set in New Zealand. There were Maori guys, they all played rugby and were big and aggressive, not very bright. The women were portrayed like a gang of Mexican girls form east LA or Puerto Ricans from the Bronx. Vulgar, violent, traveling in packs. Even sounded like Puerto Ricans, like that Rosey girl from White Men Can’t Jump. I was like, even in New Zealand, they have to have that?
That movie is the limit of my expertise on Maoris.
The NZers who are part Maori I knew years ago so I don’t know the general Maori culture/etc currently or if these two females were typical or just random individuals.
If you watch the movie Whale Rider you may get a somewhat kinder view of the Maoris.
