I grew up in Texas, too. And when I was a kid, in the 1940s, every soft drink was a coke, and every candy bar was a hershey.

Grew up in Oklahoma, if it was dark brown it was a coke (root beer seemed to be the exception though) if it was clear it was seven up ( even if it was really sprite).
