Bourgeois Forest Drive in Houston, TX is pronounced “burgess”. No frog or fancy-dan college student is going to tell a Texan how to pronounce a word.
Since you mentioned Virginia (I wasn’t going to join this slide), I know a Dr. who is from Virginia named Taliaferro. I was told by someone who knew him that the Dr pronounced his name Toliver or maybe Tolifer. Is that the way a southern of Italian descent tries to fit in or is that the southern drawl changing things?
A friend of mine with the last name Fries pronounces it Freeze. The VA town may not be a mispronunciation. Blame the Fries family for misspelling the family name.
