CEO, politician’s family among victims of Ethiopian plane crash

The victims of Sunday’s Ethiopian Airlines crash include a Swedish father-of-three who once lived in Florida and a Slovakian politician’s family.

Jonathan Seex, the CEO of hospitality company Tamarind Group, was aboard the new Boeing 737-8 MAX that crashed just 6 minutes into its route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, Kenya, killing all 157 people aboard.

Four Slovakians were also on the plane, including the family of politician Anton Hrnko, the vice chairman of the Slovak National Party. He wrote on Facebook that his wife, Blanka, son Martin and daughter Michal, had died.

The three Russian nationals on the flight were also identified by their embassy as Ekaterina Polyakova, Alexander Polyakov and Sergey Vyalikov.

The names of the 8 Americans haven't yet been released.

Ethiopian state media said more than 30 nationalities were on board flight ET 302.

They included 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, nine Ethiopians, eight each from China, the United States and Italy; seven each from France and Britain; six from Egypt; four each from India and Slovakia, among others.

Nairobi is due to host a UN environmental conference on Monday, and Antonio Guterres, the world body's chief, confirmed in a statement that among the victims were UN staff.

David Beasley, the UN's World Food Program director, also said his organisation had lost employees.

Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi expressed "great sadness and shock" as colleagues were among the victims.

His office said it was working to determine how many of the refugee agency's staff were on board the plane.

An Italian aid group that partners with UNICEF in northern Africa said one of its founders, Paolo Dieci, was among the dead. UNICEF Italy sent a message of condolences

Representatives of the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees and an employee of the World Bank also lost their lives in the disaster.

World Bank too. As many as 50 delegates to the UN Assembly on environment were killed.

Also, another Boeing. Coincidence with Vietnam buying 100 737s?

Interesting to see how it's put together. 70% air crashes not accidents...

There have been some suggestions that there were no pieces of the aircraft found - misinfo. Pics prove it went down hard.
