My sister’s a nurse and has always had problems with the extreme theatrics the addicted put on to try to get free legal opioids. The problem never was in how the stuff is marketed or by whom. The problem is that under the Obama admin in particular the hospitals don’t get reimbursed for indigent care if an indigent gives them a bad review, and these grifters know it. So they literally hold doctors and hospitals hostage by threatening to complain. So to keep them happy some docs and bosses ‘feed the beast’ and let them have what the nurses refuse to give.
A lot of problems we see today have to do with this pressure to please even those who aren’t paying a dime.
That’s not my experience. I have a family member who works in a major hospital and the staff there just laugh about the druggies and the games they play to get dope. They get nothing from them. That is the word I get, anyway.
No. The problem is that we over prescribe pain meds. This predates Obama by over a decade. Perdue out and out LIED about the addictiveness of their drug. And we’ve been handing out opioids (even ones Perdue didn’t lie about) like candy ever since. You can get a dental procedure without being handed a scrip for vicodin anymore, even when the pain is minor (my last procedure they have me that scrip for I controlled the pain with a few advil, one when the local wore off, one before bed, and one when I woke up, but I could have gotten a dozen vics if I wanted).
We give out too many pain meds. We’ve been doing it since the mid 90s. It ain’t Obama’s fault. It’s OUR fault. We demanded all these pain meds from doctors. We decided treating pain was more important than fixing problems. We fill these damn prescriptions.
