Hahaha. I haven't heard that word since I was a young, tan, beach boy and hand model.
But I always thought it was spelled "groty".
Whadda I know though. I may or may not been on the thai stick at the time. I will neither confirm or deny, but either way, I didn't inhale. That I DO know.
Ya, I'd like to see a source too. But I did predict he would take his old seat back the day he resigned. It's a matter of public record. So maybe I'm the source?

Bagster
I seem to recall first hearing the word during my first couple of years in NavAir.
It was applied to objects that were considered so foul in appearance and general sanitation they deserved only to be discarded. Never heard it spelled.
In fact, I can almost supply a direct quote of my first exposure as stated by our Leading Chief (a WWII, Korea & VN E-8 with so many ribbons/medals he marched to inspections with a 30 degree list):
"YOU PEOPLE WILL REMOVE THAT &*(*(*&&^%$$#%$% GROOOOODY &*&^%^&*^ PIECE OF &*&^&%^*(*)((*&^@#$%^& FROM MY SIGHT. IMMEDIATELY."
(That was about 50 years ago and my ears still burn....)

Definition of grody to the max
grody to the max
Extremely disgusting or foul.
The “official” spelling is grotty, but in the vernacular, grody and grodey are more common.
As in That chicken was grody to the max.
