The Apollo and Lunar Module computers each had 16k, 8 bit words. That was it. The software was hardwired and could not be changed after manufacture. With 16k, the Apollo Comand Module could control launch on th Saturn 5, earth orbit maneuvers, trans lunar injection, lunar orbit insertion, lunar orbit maneuvers, rendezvous with Lunar Module, trans earth injection, mid course maneuvers, earth entry at 25,000 mph and finally would pop the parachutes out. Pretty good for a 16k software package.

I think your average GIF image takes up more memory than was on the Apollo mission.
