And, like many here you seem to throw insults and invective around really easily. My post was clearly seeking help on something I knew I didn't understand, it ended with a question. Does anyone know?? Thankfully one Freeper simply explained it to me. But another four or five took time out of their busy days to insult me.
No big deal, I've been insulted by a lot scarier people than anyone on this thread, in real life, and survived it all just fine.
I think one reason that JimRob keeps the Q discussions quarantined here is because of the risk of toxic level of discourse here spreading, like a virus, to the rest of Free Republic. That would be truly unfortunately.
I bet I would go post counterpoints on 25 threads on other topics and never get the sort of responses that are regular "features" of the Qanon thread.
I've wondered why hat is and concluded that, in part it is because people who spend many hours on 8chan can't help but be influenced by the toxic culture there. They become oblivious to it, then they internalize it, and pretty soon they are throwing around insults, using terms like "plane-fag" here, too.
That's unfortunate. Free Republic predates the existence of 8 chan be at least a decade, and one reason it's survived is the excellent online culture. But culture is a delicate thing, it only takes the influx of so many alien ideas to wreck it.
As a more recent and disturbing example: yesterday someone posted an article about newspaper ownership that included the usual anti-Semitic tropes about the Newhouse family, complete with the famous symbols of the AltRight, triple-paren [that is (((Newhouse)))].
That's very typical of stuff on the 8chan, but not something I've seen on Free Republic.
I know some people resent the quarantine, but it's for the public health of Free Republic. The way to end it is to make this thread less appalling. Which in turn begins with not everyone having to be rude name callers in response to the simplest question from someone outside the cool-kid clique.
On the plus side, a lot of the imported memes are really funny.
