Did You Watch The CBS Alliance of American Football game? [vanity]

Did you watch either of the American Football Alliance games? Three-million other fans and I watched the San Diego Fleet vs. the San Antonio Commanders. Here are my opinionated observations . . .

1.) I like that the Alliance has found a simple way to speed up the game: the play clock is 35 instead of 45 seconds. That means that no fat, flabby, self-important hunks of NFL blubber can take time for the dramatic or the absurd. They have to get off their backsides and prepare for the next play. And some of the NFL guys have pretty large backsides to move.

2.) There are no years-old hates or rivalries that create a climate of constant anger. That meant no fights, no cheap shots in the game I watched. In fact, I saw opponents seemingly giving kudos for good playing and plays to their rivals. I'm certain this will change over the years, but for now, I enjoyed watching a game in which neither players or fans taunted opposing team members.

3.) The play was solid but on par with first games, new players, and teams not yet familiar with teammates' abilities or limitations.

4.) There was no Kaepernick.

5.) The game broadcast team didn't pull out comparisons to tired ole NFL players. (I am so sick of hearing about Suh and Brady and all those guys.)

6.) The fans were supportive.

7.) The players gave all-out efforts in their play. Saw amazing plays and players. No Cam Newtons to get out of the way of the football players on loose ball situations.

8.) Everyone is calling the American Football Alliance pro ball's minor league. I think within a very short time, the Alliance will have parity with the tired ole take-a-knee fatties and sponges and ego merchants of the NFL and, if they keep up their hustle and drive, the Alliance could develop a huge fan base that outscores the NFL's.

I wish the Alliance well. The NFL can go to . . . well, it rhymes.

I thought it was decent. Wish they had shaved the quarters down to maybe 13 minutes but at least we didn’t see innumerable stoppages for play review, etc.

I watched it, and it made a positive impression on me too. I like how the entire game lasted about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and the action was relatively non-stop (compared to you know who). I'll look forward to watching more.

In fact, there's another game coming up in about 35 minutes.

I was surprised. It’s fairly entertaining and the two things I really like is the quick pace of the game (something the nfl needs to adopt as soon as possible) and the showing the viewers the instant replay decision as it happens. I think eventually the nfl will put its money behind it in some way the NFL Europe was in the past

These guys are only making $75,000 for this season, so a few of them will be lucky enough to be offered tryouts and possibly a chance to play in the NFL, but most of them will end their football careers in that league. They play for the love of the sport, much like their counterparts up north in the CFL. Many of these guys have to work another job in the offseason, so they stay grounded and humble, unlike the overpaid thugs in the NFL!

As a San Diegan, was not pleased with the final score, but enjoyed the pace of play. Limited running game by both teams, and not sure why — the Fleet may have benefited by keeping it on the ground more and not being sacked & intercepted so much.

Needless to say I was not happy with Atlanta’s 40-6 loss, but we’re used to it 🤨

Funny what you said. Last time the NFL messed with their clock it took 20% of the snaps out. At first it seemed like the games were shorts but after a while you got used to the fewer snaps. Last nights had many more plays with the limited advertising plus 35 second play clock. Many more snaps.

They need more instant replay and review officials and male cheerleaders and players kneeling or they’ll never be as “successful” as the NFL. :-)

While I realize that the NFL doesn’t produce the commercials, still, no stinking Proctor & Gamble razor blade commercial produced by jackass feminists.

It was like watching an NFL exhibition game in the 4th quarter. Most of the gameplay was rather ordinary.

The San Diego team looked like they had tire tread up and down their uniforms which was appropriate for their OL which were run over most of the game.

The true highlight was when the Commanders got their first sack and the lineman absolutely splattered the quarterback - helmet flying one direction, ball flying another. THAT’s what we used to see from the NFL until it turned candy-assed and penalized teams for giving opponents an ouchie. I doubt it was intentional but that play and non-call announced to a lot of folks that this was FOOTBALL and not the pc-drenched NFL variety.

The audio for the game was awful, cutting out periodically which was okay because Tiki and Trent aren’t worth much.

The best quarterback on the field was Greg Ward Jr. who led Houston to a one-loss season and Peach Bowl victory over Florida State a couple of seasons ago. Ward was a converted WR who became a QB when Tom Herman ran out of passers. He’s probably too small to be a QB at the next level but he’s an amazing athlete who made some great catches.

The uniforms, overall, look ghastly. Very World Football League-ish.

I did watch Orlando vs Atlanta until it got unbearable for Atlanta. I am delighted there is non political football at the moment and will watch again.

Loved it. Can’t wait for Vince McMahon’s league start-up next year.

Yes, the announcers repeatedly treated it like an NFL farm system and the players as last chance wannabes.

I saw most of the game and enjoyed it. I am not a football fan, let alone an expert, but I enjoy watching good athletic competition in just about any sport at any level. I wish all involved success.
