Shaky, to be sure. We had no intel mechanism at the time to penetrate the SU; civilian intel was non existent and mil intel was chasing escaping Nazis. I suspect it was sort of a lingering General Patton mentality re: the USSR.
As you imply, it was similar to Op Paperclip thinking: we had no missile program and Stalin was grabbing German scientists as fast as he could get them. They were likely stopgap measures until some certain people could rattle Washington's cage to wake up to what was beyond the joy of Victory in Europe... They turned out to be longer programs than stopgap, eh?

I’m with you. The truth is bad enough. We don’t need to modify (unless it’s really obvious). We’re going to have a time soon where vile videos will be written off as ‘fakevideo’ or ‘deepfake’. We shouldn’t muddy the waters.
For those that wonder why the post was removed, it was a photoshopped (apparently) pic of biden groping a woman with the caption “Biden 2020/Groper in Chief”. His hand was placed almost directly over her breast from behind.
There’s enough pics of that douchecanoe with his hands on little girls and boys. I guess I should have known it was a fake since he had his hand on a full-grown women. That’s not his thing.

I saw this in the morning, and was hesitant to post.
This is a 30 second clip from TMZ with Ralph Rieckermann, the former bassist for Scorpions (rock band).
For some reason, the interviewer asks him about “fetish parties” and Ralph says he doesn’t like them because rich people pay to see people killed (the first example), or it was something he wouldn’t describe and said he wanted to be sick.
Just a glimpse, I suppose.

Years ago, I read Frederick Forsythe’s “The Odessa File”, but haven’t read Len Deighton’s account that you mentioned.
This is a fairly comprehensive review of General Reinhard Gehlen’s career , both during and after the war, and is available on the internet. Fascinating.
