After a mix-up at MGM National Harbor, one jackpot winner had to leave without her cash.
Cynthia Obie won thousands on a slot machine at the Prince Georges County casino but when the casino took down her Social Security number incorrectly, she lost it all.

Following regulations, before handing her the cash, MGM staff took her ID and personal information.
But they misread her Social Security number by one digit.
The person whose number they plugged into the database apparently owed the state of Maryland a lot of child support, and Obies winnings were immediately confiscated.
Im like no all of my daughters are grown Ive never paid child support. Im like this cant be right, she said.
By the time they realized the Social Security number error, it was too late. MGM says its now out of their hands, citing Maryland law.
A spokesman told FOX 5 that its up to Obie to follow up with the Gaming Control Agency.

That’s terrible.
I learned this by watching my buds play blackjack in Vegas. When you aren’t playing it frees up your mind to see what is going on in the game. The players are too focused to notice what is going on.
When someone hits a huge jackpot on the slots, the casino almost always say it was a malfunction and withhold the winnings.
Unless the machine has a sign stating the maximum payout, the casino needs to pay.
The child support laws ARE BRUTAL. I wouldn’t be surprised if she never sees the money especially being Maryland.
Don’t forget that even if DNA evidence clears a supposed dad, he is still under court order to pay til kid reaches 18.

True, thanks a million again for sharing. I’ve daytraded, and there are repeating patterns along with candlesticks which are highly profitable. Unfortunately, with the passage of Dodd-Frank Banking bill, it’s getting harder to make money in the largest market in the world.
Isn’t that what ‘counting cards’ is all about?
What do they do for people with no social security number?
Their average blackjack table is $25. When I went to Vegas, I could play at a $5 table.
I took statistics and genetics but the math was very hard for me. It would be so fun to be a card counter but its beyond my little brain.
That’s right.
She did nothing wrong.
The error was theirs and it’s theirs to make right.

Thanks a million for chiming in. What would I do without m
y Freep peeps?
Bad for business? LOL! That is the busiest casino that MGM owns. It is packed all the time.
Grr. However the casino is right; with the wrong SSN the moneys gone immediately.
Nonetheless the state has 2 days to process it and if notified can put a hold on the $ and make things right. If they didnt (pause) she has a good case vs the casino.
You did not read the article.
Another one who did not read the article.
Grief. You did not read the article. The casino paid the winnings but to the state.
“This card is not to be used for identification”
“For Social Security purposes - Not for identification.”
Seems to me the casino was using her SSN for identification, not her name. And that is illegal. It says so right on the Social Security card.
They use three decks of cards at a casino.
If you had read the article, you would have learned the casino can’t get it back from the state. Only Obie can get it back from the state. No one bothers to read the articles.
So what?
They were the ones who made the error.
You think they are okay because they sent the winnings to the wrong place?
The casino’s excuse is not an exemption from their error.
