After the long 2 to 17 years, cicadas emerge from the ground as nymphs. ... Adult cicadas, also called imagoes, spend their time in trees looking for a mate. Males sing, females respond, mating begins, and the cycle of life begins again.

That pesky number seventeen again. Wonder if these buggers have been waiting seventeen years to hatch.

They do, if they’re 17 year cicadas. Funny about the number. Somebody just posted a 17 reference from the movie Sully.
