>>Been known to do a little coding. Always wondered who to complain to. :)
The profusion of programming languages was called The Tower of Babel because EVERYONE who coded believed they could design a better one, and tried. When we went into the contest to design the Department of Defense common language, the services were allowed to have 2 additional languages besides the new one. The Army had only one - TACPOL, because it was the only language in the army used in TWO computer programs. Everything else was coded in different languages. Thus, the tower of babel.
Perfect name. Developed several accounting and management systems for dot gov, which handled millions and millions. Might have even found part of the unaccountable trillions, but dot gov went with SAP for a mere B, annualized, under advice from a couple of retired four stars, and their buds in high places. Dot gov auditors agreed our design was the only system able to track every step from appropriation to expenditure - couldn’t have that. Dot gov owned to boot. At least some Germans and their retired dot mil consultants were made happy. No one knows actual cost, and never will.
