Harvard’s law review acceptance process includes 18 positions for those who write a maximum 150 word statement of how entitled they should be because of their unique background including ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.... What a friggin’ joke! How much did you want to bet that Barry wrote a compelling ditty about being a poor, gay Kenyan to win their hearts.

My Washington DC law school, at about the same time, had nothing of the sort. In fact, I was reviled on campus for starting a chapter of the Christian Legal Society and was grudgingly only made a member of the law review because of their grade rules. The student with the top grades after the first year was given a mandatory law review position at the start of year two. Let’s just say that the editorial board was none too happy to see me.

I was involved with L1 and L2 students and recall when law review positions were dependent on grade and writing sample.

I am appalled at the rules Harvard and other law schools have put forth.

If one looks at the requirement closely it looks like about 20 of them are chosen as a result of talent and knowledge. That is the core of the law review and they have to be browbeaten by the less able who are there for window-dressing and political correctness.

Sort of reminds me of when I went back to grad school and many of the courses were taught with the classes broken down into groups and the group getting the grade. One person carried the group, or two at the most and the rest just rode on their tails.

I saw this continue in the public and some private schools when my homeschooled children took courses locally.

Lazy way of teaching and guarantees that the inept pass the courses. Makes success rate data look better than the reality.
