Trump, Pelosi, Schumer, and Pence as the Straight Man (not really a vanity)

Posted on 12/13/2018 4:46:49 PM PST by RoosterRedux

Mike Pence, playing the underappreciated straight man, showed a lot of courage...and Trump, recognizing that he needed a straight man, showed a lot of courage, too.

Here is the video of most of that meeting. VIDEO

Trump suckered Nancy and Chuckie into a completely transparent meeting...all on video.

And Trump did it with the great Mike Pence playing the straight man.

BTW, this was not a double vaudevillian comedy act so Pence was playing a slightly different role.

Pence's straight man act was aimed at bringing dignity and gravitas to this meeting.

The President knew he would have to mud wrestle Pelosi and Schumer to get them to be honest...and, of course, the President loved that.

It was Pence who stood above the mud wrestling. He remind us that while the President is willing to get in the mud and wrestle for the truth...for the U.S.A....he, the President, still understands the importance of the dignity of the WH.

He, the President, knows that the White House is still above such.

Trump is a master of reality TV. I think he and his team, including Mike Pence, took a great deal of joy knowing how this would play out.

BTW, using a straight man in this case meant having someone present, Pence, who would dignify an otherwise undignified performance.

In other word, Trump was once again the pig your mom warned you not to wrestle with.

Trump, Pelosi, Schumer all got into the mud.

Trump loved every minute of it and Pelosi and Schumer got awfully dirty.

And there was Pence, representing the dignity of the White House.

Trump will never let the public perceive that he needs an underling to defend him.

“He didn’t “out” Flynn as a liar. He falsely accused him of it.”

Amazing the number of deep-state rinos that got ‘placed’ around President Trump. It didn’t happen by accident, either.

“Baloney. He would welcome anyone in there on his side slugging bad guys on his behalf. The fact is, if Mr. dignified was there in the White House instead of “orange zany gorilla” Trump (as you call him), there would have been no meeting at all. Pence, Pelosi, and Schumer all agree that a wall isn’t gonna be built.

He would settle for chump change money for nebulous “border security”, and would give a deal to legalize the DACA crowd.

Such short sighted, small minded, two dimensional thinkers have populated this forum of late.

A year of campaign and 2 years in office and so many on this forum haven’t a clue how Donald trumps mind works.

Donald IS the main attraction, HE’S the show, not Pence not Pompeo not anyone BUT Donald and that’s the way he wants it, the way he demands it to be. If Pence would have jumped in it would have stolen some of Trump’s impact, some of HIS thunder and he would have reprimanded Pence for doing it.

Trump likes standing alone because that’s the way he feels the most powerful and the most persuasive. The David vs 100 Goliaths is what fuels the man and if you all have not realized that by now, you never will.

I took Vice-pres Pence’s being there as the same thing the Babylon Bee’s author did.

And it makes a lot of sense.

“Trump will never let the public perceive that he needs an underling to defend him.”

And that right there is the correct answer.

Maybe, but instead it came off as a "deer in the headlights" moment - almost appearing as if Pence was as appalled by the spectacle as the media was.

I don't really understand the man, but always I keep getting the nagging feeling that he is trying hard not to take any position he can't back away from in the future, if the need arises. That he's not a Ryan RINO, but he's not entirely on Team Trump, either. Maybe he has just been in DC too long, and though possessing better instincts he has started to act publicly like the rest of the GOP does.

Even though he was not a full-term Governor when elected VP, he was one before becoming VP.

Yep. No doubt POTUS instructed his VP to never support him against treasonous assault by the Deep State. Google “Pence and Mueller” and what do you think you get? I’ll buy you a clue: Nothing.

Not really. Pence’s wall flower act was his typical posture when anything controversial comes up. He’s simply not interested in defending POTUS’s flanks on those issues.

I’d like to see him do the traditional job of a veep and be the attack dog. Say what you will, Biden launched hard into defense against anyone going after Obama.

Exactly. Whenever the bullets are flying you can count on Pence hiding under his desk is classic doormat GOPe style.

Frankly, Pence is dead weight at this point. He has deliberately refused (like the rest of the GOPe) to defend POTUS against the treasonous Mueller Coup.

POTUS needs to look for another VP for 2020. If we are going to be saddled with a GOPe careerist VP it might as well be a bomb thrower like Nikki Haley. Nunes would be another possibility. We need MAGA fighters. Not self interested GOPe careerists.

Trump was pissed so he failed to reply with some real good zingers that would have really put the old hag and flat head back on their heels.

But what a ass chewing that was.

Nikki Haley is a neverTrumper anchor baby backed by likes of Bill Kristol. I’m sure she’ll run against Trump in 2020 even though she’s not eligible.

I’d take nunes or gaetz for VP in a NY minute.
