Logically, that would mean that everyone ever convicted at trial is actually guilty -- that no one innocent is ever found guilty.
A procedural issue re the jurors: in the state of Victoria where he was on trial, they don't have the feature that we have in the courts here (I don't know what it's called), where the prosecution and defense question jurors and approve or reject them based on what they think their prejudices are. You get the jurors who are called, and that's it.
The most serious charges were thrown out last May. For one of them, the accuser said the abuse took place in a chapel. He then changed it to a playground. He then changed it to a mountain. The judge tossed it, saying he had a bad memory.
Another charge was Pell abused a boy at a movie theater. But no one at the theater saw Pell there, and the movie the (now adult) boy said was playing wasn't. Tossed.
One thing that's really scary: if you are innocent, how do you defend yourself against 40-year-old charges?
So, I feel better, thanks to generally. And I'll continue to pray for Cardinal Pell. If Q comes out with proof in the future that he's guilty, then I will admit I'm wrong.
