Only a few hosts display their internet speeds. Cable tv means nothing if the tv package is not international(American). Reviewers may not have the same interests so information is spotty. The search for the right place is like a fishing expedition. If you like solitude with no amenities it's the only way to go. That way extra goodies will be a pleasant surprise.
I use Airbnb a lot in Europe. In the US I stick to hotels. Parking, internet, host cancellation issues, etc. So many things can go wrong with Airbnb it’s just not worth the masssive increase in risk to save a few bucks, IMO.
Host cancellation issues are posted by airbnb-probably to cover their butts-can’t turn off the customer. They tell. An individual with a particular need has to email every individual host to find out. I for one like my solitude. Reading is it on vacations. I just want Fox News and a few sports channels on the tv. That would be on the hosts and airbnb can thereby use the Sgt. Schultz line when one checks in disappointed.
What? You mean those foreign countries don't have all the American cable channels? Next you'll be telling me that some programs aren't even in English.
If you want to spend all of your time inside watching US TV, stay at home. It would be cheaper.
You are right. Solitude is harder to find at home so it’s worth it to blow money somewhere else. American tv is like texting. Doesn’t require a response. I would have liked to see the Bush funeral coverage you it’s in bits and pieces. Next year I’ll get the tv package(internet) that goes good with GI’s overseas. A football game would be nice.
Rented an AirBnB last year for Christmas in San Antonio. Was very pleased. It was an 18 acre property within the city. A creek, trees in fall colors, deer strolling thru, with a hike n bike trail running thru the property. Two bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house with a private patio with outdoor fireplace. Price was equivalent to a one bedroom suite on the RiverWalk. Host lived on property and he was great, friendly but not intrusive. That is my only experience with AirBnB. It was a good one.
I’ve got two AirBnB’s. One here in Manhattan, and the other in Key Biscsyne. Both are doing great and are five star rated. Airbnb had blessed us with awesome guests and we really enjoy hosting.

You have to ask the AirBNB about the connections like internet and TV. Almost all are used to answering those questions immediately.
They vary enormously. Always something you don’t expect. One house had no lamps. Who would even think to ask about that? One had pesty neighbors. One had people talking right outside windows and possibly looking in (considered breaking and entering, by the way).
We used AirBnb 4 times in Montreal when our daughter attended University there. Each was unique and in a different part of town. Much cheaper than staying in a hotel and we could cook all our meals and do laundry. Used one in St. Louis as well. I really enjoyed them all and they were a great deal.
All that said, I will no longer use AirBnb due to their recent liberal and anti-semitic stances.

I must say I was taken aback when the American girl found lots of problems with her Air Bnb ... and was ultimately murdered there last week!
AirBnb is useless in America, but awesome in places like Japan where hotels are needlessly expensive.
For a family with more children than can comfortably fit in a hotel room, it was a God send. We took out two Airbnb’s when we moved to Phoenix and we got a three bedroom house in Mesa for less than the cost of a Motel 6. I don’t pick a home based on its cable. We were able to take our time to find the right permanent rental. A hotel would have made us rush and make an inferior choice.
I prefer VRBO over a hotel for a week’s stay. . Have never had an issue.
In both cases I was on vacation so wifi was not an issue.
If you're going to a place you've never been before, I highly recommend doing all your research ahead of time.
Waiting until you get there and expecting wifi to help you locate restaurants, entertainment options, sights etc. is not a very good idea, even if you know ahead of time you will have access to the internet.
I can’t do AirBNB...I’d always feel like there are hidden cameras trained on me. Not that I’d be doing anything embarrassing, but there are a lot of weirdos out there and who knows if they have cameras trained in on the bathroom and showers and streaming it out to the web.
There was a ‘hostess’ who used her spare room to hook up with her customers. Oh what a country!
