The problem is, the public didn’t know there was a problem until Feb 2017.
Those that knew - and they had to know for good long awhile - kept it quiet.
I had to look back for this but near as I can figure:
The Awans were let go 2/2/2017 and Politico & BuzzFeed reported on it 2/2/2017.
Daily Caller posted it’s first article 2/4/2017.

IMO, Daily Caller’s Luke Rosiak and George Webb did the bulk of the investigative reporting on this.

And you are right, no reason to think W would know anything about this.
