Denmark to banish foreign criminals to remote island

Foreign criminals sentenced to deportation are to be banished to a remote island off the coast of Denmark, the country's government has announced.

Finance minister Kristian Jensen said the criminals will be detained at a facility on Lindholm, an uninhabited seven-hectare island in the province of Vordingborg.

The tough scheme was set up as part of an agreement between Denmark’s conservative coalition government and its anti-immigration ally, the Danish People’s Party (DF).

I wonder if the EUcrats at Brussels will complain. Good for Denmark. They realize they have a good thing going and are fed up of migrants ruining it.

Sounds like the Danes are cleaning out what’s rotten in Denmark.

Perhaps they can rename the island “Pelikan”.

I understand there is a nice little island in the Indian Ocean. Just drop them off on the beach and get the h-ll out of there, FAST!

I like it. 7 hectares is about 20 acres.

I wonder if there are any facilities on the island or if the prisoners will fend for themselves?

Welcome to the Island. Here is your hammer, axe, hand saw and square. Winters is nigh. Get building.

Food will be delivered on Tuesdays.

Singapore has long done this to miscreants and druggies who fail rehab three times. Of course, the climate is a bit more gentle than Denmark. And, yes, the prisoners mostly fend for themselves. It does have a mail delivery twice a week so the “residents” can get care packages and it does provide some basic foodstuffs about once a week, stuff they have to prepare for themselves.

Denmark owns a more remote island they could use...Greenland (a.k.a. Kalaallit Nunaat). As long as the Eskimos (or Inuit) don’t object.

Since the sseventies, I have advocated that the United States should build its prisons in the Aleutians. Not just for foreigners either.

Hmm...you know, there’s an island three times that size in San Francisco Bay we could use. It has services and housing and a ferry to the mainland as well. Even a catchy name: Alcatraz.

Johnston Atoll is an unincorporated territory of the United States currently administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. It has been enlarged by the US to a surface area of just over 1 square mile. It could likely be enlarged to over 10 square miles.

If foreign criminals were then put there, at the same population density as Macao, of 55,000 per square mile, the atoll could hold some half a million or more. This would do much to persuade such criminals to avoid the US as a destination.
